Ubuntu Canteen -- Very Yellow Springs

It was a dark and stormy night….and I had an order placed at the local Ubuntu Canteen. What a perfect night for Rajma & Veggies (bean and veggie curry), Chicken Biriyani (rice cooked in broth and spices) and Carrot-Nectarine-Plum Salad (with ginger-honey dressing). I was in heaven! A lovingly-prepared meal that immediately took away the chill of the night. My partner, Tom, took one bite and said, “This is food for the gods.”

Ubuntu Canteen is the brainchild of a local woman who loves to cook and give back to the community. “Ubuntu” is her inspiration---a concept in many cultures of Southern Africa that emphasizes the spirit of sharing and honoring our connectedness. Ubuntu Canteen chef says, “In honor of our mutual humanness, we’ll provide a fun, colorful, healthful veggie-and-grain-rich dinner to anyone who would like one. We’ll have one extra dinner (to feed 2-5 people) on each MWF. Pick-up preferred; in-town delivery possible at approximately 5-5:30 p.m.”

E-mail Ubuntu.Canteen@gmail.com to specify food restrictions and arrange. There is no fee. If you do not have e-mail, leave a brief message at 767-1611.
