December 1st is Jumble Donation Drop-Off Day

The Yellow Springs Arts Council is holding its first Holiday Art Jumble fundraiser to support local artists and the YSAC Community Gallery.

“Jumble Sale Donation Drop-Off Day” is Saturday, December 1 (1-4pm) – bring your gently-used “arty” items to the YSAC Gallery and join the YSAC Team in celebrating the season with festive cookies, hot cider and holiday cheer!  Our featured artist, Sondy Kai, will help you to create a colorful ornament with ‘upcycled’ plastic to decorate downtown YS.

We invite you to donate anything fascinating, lovable, crafty or vintage that you are ready to pass on or no longer have a place for.  We would love your Out-of-the-Closet Art, Grandma’s Arty Knickknacks, Hand-Crafted Whimsy and Under-the-Bed Collectibles.  If you have an item that screams “ART!!!” and is being neglected & collecting dust, donate it to the Art Jumble!

If you cannot make it on December 1, drop off your “art treasure” donations from Wednesday to Sunday (1-4pm) through January 18 at the YSAC Gallery at 111 Corry Street.  Or, if these times do not work for you, call Nancy Mellon at 937-767-1366 to work out another time.

The Holiday Art Jumble Sale & Exhibit opens on December 15 (1-4pm) and continues through January 20 (Wednesday to Sunday, 1-4pm).  You will find unique gifts at “can’t-resist” prices and you will be supporting the arts in Yellow Springs.

New Display in the Public Art Box

Nancy made a cute felt piece for December 2012 Display in the Art Box located next to IN A FRAME on Corry Street.
You can see past displays on the slide show
We continue to leave art out for Free Art Friday so if you see this tag on a little piece of art of art box it's finders keepers.

Saturday Sightings in Yellow Springs

This reminds me of the wonderful Christmas Window Displays in Fenwicks Department Store back in the UK and it's magical. Susan Gartner did an absolutely fantastic job. The owner of Downing's told me she is thinking Susan should visit her house too ;) So much to explore, including the charming Teddy Bear Tea.
I spotted another Little Free Library in town on Dayton Street.
If you don't know anything about this wonderful national movement click on this link and they tell you all about it.
This made me smile
on South Walnut Street
Actually lots of things made me smile this morning and for that I feel truly blessed.

Experience Saturday -- Ingrid Edwards: A Beautiful Life

On Saturday, November 10 (5-6:30pm), Ingrid Edwards, former Broadway dancer & NYC-based artist, leads a Gallery Chat followed by a music reception performed by Antioch College students Seth Kaplan & Jenn Wheeler at the YSAC Community Gallery (111 Corry Street).

Edwards's life has been a work of art – enjoy the reflection of her nearly nine decades of experience in her exquisite & impactful acrylic paintings and charcoal drawings. Ingrid is currently exhibiting CIRCLES AND POCKETBOOKS at the YSAC Community Gallery, and her work is exhilarating. Experience her unique perspective, which motivates her to focus on subjects that have not been explored by other artists. Ingrid’s creative excitement is contagious!

Kaplan & Wheeler bring an abstract blend of music to the YSAC Gallery performance space, and they are encouraging audience participation. Expect a surprising eclectic mix of cello, accordion, keyboard, guitar and percussion instruments with Broadway and jazz undertones.

The Yellow Springs Arts Council's Experience Saturday series provides opportunities to share in the talents of our local artists. Join our FB Event or visit www.ysartscouncil.org for more details.

OOOOOOh, a Holiday Jumble ART Sale

When: Friday, November 9, 2012
Time: Wed.-Sun. 1-4 p.m.
Where: YSAC Gallery, 111 Corry Street

A HOLIDAY ART JUMBLE
The Yellow Springs Arts Council is holding its first Holiday Art Jumble to support local artists and the YSAC Community Gallery.
We invite you to donate anything fascinating, lovable, crafty or arty — anything that makes you smile! We would love your Out-of-the-Closet Art, Grandma’s Arty Knickknacks, Hand-Crafted Whimsy, Tiny Collectibles that are gathering dust and those
fabulous chotchkies (because we love saying chotchkies!)

From Wednesday to Sunday (1-4pm) between November 2 and December 10, you can drop off your “Art Treasures” at the YSAC Gallery at 111 Corry St. Or, if that doesn’t work for you, call Nancy Mellon at 937-767-1366 to work out another time.
Starting December 15th, Wednesday-Sunday 1-4 p.m., until January 20th, come to enjoy the Holiday Art Jumble! You will find unique gifts at can’t-resist prices and you’ll be supporting the arts in Yellow Springs. Andy Fields bought an original Andy Warhol sketch for $5 earlier this year at a Jumble Sale — just imagine what priceless pieces are waiting for you!
Sorry, we cannot accept used toys, clothing, kitchen appliances or books. (Of course, if the item is just plain screaming “This Is ART!”, we will gladly make an exception!) If it’s a big item (say vintage velvet furniture that’s to die for), please call Nancy Mellon at 937-767-1366 to discuss.

New Life for Trash

Sondy Kai has been collecting trash and transforming it into art for her upcoming exhibit at the Yellow Springs Arts Council.
Sondy asks visitors to the reception to show up plastisized. The jafagirls will oblige.
