Yarnbombers meet Bombshells at YSAC Gallery

On Saturday night, JafaGirls ("Just Another %$*&# Artist") Nancy Mellon and Corrine Bayraktaroglu gave a Salon Chat at the Yellow Springs Arts Council Gallery on the topic of Craft Activism, their adventures in yarn bombing and knit graffiti, their shock at being labeled "craft activists," and their delight to be featured in a new book by Random House: Craft Activism: People, Ideas, and Projects from the New Community of Handmade.

Music was provided by accordionist extraordinaire Ben Hemmendinger and singer-songwriter Dawn Cooksey. This was all part of Experience Saturday, a new multi-arts event sponsored by Yellow Springs Arts Council.

A highlight of the evening was when seven representatives of a group called the "Bombshells of Cincinnati" descended on the gallery to meet their inspiration --- Nancy and Corrine. Corrine had only corresponded with the Cincinnati yarnbombers on Facebook and she and Nancy were thrilled to see how their simple desire to create community and conversation in the village had spread to a like-minded sisterhood in a major metropolis.
