Yellow Springs Banner Fest 2012

Yellow Springs Banner Fest 2012

After being on hiatus for two years, the Yellow Springs Banner Fest is ready to fly in 2012!

It’s a lot of fun to create a banner and see it beautify the downtown streets. It’s also a chance to display art on a LARGE scale without juries or judges!

There are lots of banner brackets downtown so there’s plenty of room for colorful art to brighten the gloomy winter days.

Coordinators are planning three workshops and getting out the word. If you’re interested or know someone (or a group or organization) that might be interested, let us know so we can keep you in the e-mail loop. Stay tuned to this blog so you can be up-to-date on details and workshops.

Our first Informational Meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 9, 7-8:30 p.m. in the Senior Center Great Room, 227 Xenia Avenue. This is an important meeting for persons new to the Banner Fest to learn about the available materials and cost, what materials/designs have worked and not worked in the past, learn about opportunities to purchase or swap material from other banner makers, and get a feel for the creative process and time commitment. The timing of the three scheduled workshops will be tight this year as we would like the banners up by the end of February.

Fest co-coordinator and Banner Goddess Maxine Skuba is offering handholding services to newbies to help them get comfortable with the process. Watch this blog for a video I made back in 2009 that will give you a sense of how it all comes together.

In the meantime, start thinking about possible designs and sketching ideas. Keep your designs simple, bold, and big. The simpler the design, the easier the process.

See you in 2012!
