Auction raises money and awareness for breast cancer

Lynn Hardman, owner of Yellow Springs Curves and local mosaic tile artist Johanna Smith (center) teamed up recently for an auction/fundraiser to benefit the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Smith’s pink ribbon mosaic was auctioned off on Monday, October 31, to cap off the Breast Cancer Awareness month and Curves’ efforts to make its members aware of their breast health.

Donations and bids were collected at Curves, 506 S. High Street, with the winning bid going to villager Joan Ackerman (right).

Pictured on the left is Mary Fisher, a physical therapist doctoral candidate doing her dissertation on the benefits of exercise for women surviving breast cancer.

To complete the circle, Joan Ackerman gifted the mosaic to Mary for her office. The event raised nearly $200 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation in a week. Thanks to all who participated!
