Remember OUR Storybox: It Returns to Yellow Springs

After a Two-year Successful World Tour, the Yellow Springs Storybox Returns!

Remember our beautiful Knit Knot StoryBox created by our own Jafa Girls, Corinne Bayraktaroglu and Nancy Mellon? For eight months in 2008 and 2009, under the watchful eye of former library employee, Carolion Grailbear, our StoryBox was centrally located in our Yellow Springs branch Library, collecting your stories. Since then it has traveled worldwide to numerous places, such as Ireland, Switzerland and Israel, sharing our stories and collecting new ones from people at each celebrated stop.

Our YS StoryBox was so very popular! It has had continuing requests to visit in other towns in many countries. That is why it was away, and traveling, for nearly two years.
Celebrate the return of our Yellow Springsʼ StoryBox, from its around-the-world journey.
Join us Saturday, March 12th from 2-4 p.m. at the Yellow Springs Library
. At this celebration, the founder of the International Storybox Project and storyteller, Dr. Kevin Cordi; the creators of Yellow Springsʼ unique StoryBox, Corrine and Nancy; local StoryBox Ambassador, Jonatha Wright; storyteller, Harold Wright and some of the local Yellow Springs folks who contributed their stories; will tell about our StoryBoxʼs success, and read from the numerous stories collected on this long and delightful journey. These tales will include special stories contributed by Carolion, told in her memory.

Additionally there is a new offshoot of the StoryBox Project, the StoryBanner Project, inspired by the StoryBoxes. Some of these will be on display March 12th. The premier "kick-off' celebration for the Story Banner Project will be right here in Yellow Springs as part of our StoryBox celebration.

Please Join Us!!
And thank you for your part in making our Yellow Springs StoryBox such a worldwide success!!!

Jonatha Wright, YS StoryBox Ambassador

I'm in Heaven, oh yes I am

The Yellow Springs News has a story about a new store promises Heaven on Earth, and guess what it does, well that's if you love retro, vintage, up-scale thrift stores.

Donna Blackmon and Rosey

Last night I had a dream this store moved into my house and I was really in heaven LOL! Seriously though, this store has all sorts of goodies, including a really cool wee art gallery filled with folksy original paintings that are charmingly naive. Donna has a keen eye for the kinds of things that will appeal to young and old,  and great prices too.

I couldn't resist this crochet tote

to carry my nefarious supplies
and
 Rosey
I LOVE YOU

Store is located at 253 Xenia Ave
Yellow Springs, OH 45387

Tie one on at Village Artisans

Village Artisans kicked off an early Mardi Gras celebration on Friday evening, February 18, as part of Third Friday Fling. Artist-made masques and New Orleans-style food were part of the celebration hosted by Village Artisans co-op members including Amy Achor (top photo) and Sue Brezine (bottom photo, in back). The masques are on display through February.

Birds in the Hood

There must have been about 10 Turkey Vultures hanging around this morning and I managed to get a nice shot of an immature pair.

Antiques and Collectibles

Footprints of the Past
220 Xenia Ave. (a King’s Yard shop) Phone: 937-597-9877
moved a couple of doors down to their new and LARGER space in Kings Yard, which means they are full of MORE goodies.

I LOVE teapots so I was very pleased to find this little beauty, and at a great price too. I would say in general their prices are very fair, and they are willing to hunt down anything you might be interested in.  Not sure what era this teapot is (seems very retro, art deco) but it was unusual in comparison to their more victorian style items.  I really like the atmosphere in the new location, and finding little suprises like my shiny new teapot.

If anyone recognizes what era/make this silver plated teapot is I would appreciate it, thanks.
Well time for a cup of rosie lea (tea)
 toodles from Jafabrit

YS Film Festival: Letters from Frank

Joanne Caputo's new short film about her mother's World War II love letters.  I was so  happy to see Joanne's film come in second as audience favourite at the Yellow Springs Film Festival.

Real small Towns review of Yellow Springs

"If the town were a house it would be big and old, filled with books and newspapers, comfortable reading chairs, a cracking fire, and a prominent piano. A large pot of soup would simmer on the stove."
Has a nice slideshow of images around town

That's a pretty good description, well NOT when we have a  power outage, eek!
