My Afternoons with Margueritte at Little Art

See the delightful French film MY AFTERNOONS WITH MARGUERITTE, starring Gérard Depardieu and Gisèle Casadesus at Little Art Theatre this week.

Depardieu plays Germain, a nearly illiterate man in his 50's considered to be the village idiot, who takes a walk to the park one day and happens to sit beside Margueritte (Casadesus), a little old lady who is reading excerpts from her novel aloud. Afternoons spent reading aloud on their favorite bench transform their lives and start them both on a new journey. "The larger-than-life actor [Depardieu] is as emblematic of his country as Tom Hanks is of ours, and My Afternoons With Margueritte is his Forrest Gump. Only better," raves the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "French feel-good filmmaking to the max," writes Variety.
