"Emotion in Motion"
by Meredith Cope

The Glen Helen Atrium Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition by Dayton artist, Meredith Cope, entitled "Emotion in Motion, " between Wednesday July 2nd and Tuesday, August 27th.

The exhibit presents oil paintings of koi, exotic fish that originated in Asia. "Images of koi brings us more than just references of good fortune" states Meredith, "but rather of true abundance....Abundance of grace, inescapable beauty, natural flow, and the connection to all that is, are laid out before us just for the claiming. Abundance:that is our essence." Meredith's work embodies the flow of movement through classical form while infusing elements of many other styles to produce her own unique imagery.

The public is invited to meet the artist at the opening reception on Sunday, July 6th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm., Meredith will give a brief talk and will answer questions.

The author's book, The Gift of Koi, will be on sale at the Glen Helen Nature Shop throughout the exhibition period.

Art Chat in the Gallery

This Friday is  "Open Critique" at the Yellow Springs, Arts Council Gallery 2-4 p.m.  We are changing the name to "Art Chat"  Even though the sessions have been fun and delightfully laid back, we think that using the word "Critique" causes shudders for some artists (like me!) so we decided to switch. We are inviting anyone to come and talk about art-you are welcome to bring a finished or unfinished piece of art to discuss,  yours or another artists or a link, a tip to share about an artist or art event that inspires you or maybe an art idea that you want to discuss.  We might discuss the work in the gallery or a world wide art trend or art history or an art peeve of ours.  Anything about art that you want to discuss with other artists or art lovers.  Come and relax, bring a drink if you want to, and chat about art.

Arts Council Exhibit: Phyllis' Show

Phyllis’ Show
Photographs by Nance Parent
July 18th-August 10th
At the YSAC Community Gallery
Phyllis’ Show is a tribute show.
It’s a daughter’s loving response to a mother’s wish.

Nance Parent’s photos are very personal and eclectic.  While focusing on taking photos of the mundane, ordinary, normal pieces of daily life, she manages to make the ordinary sublime and the everyday intriguing.

“You should have a photography show,” her mother said to her on more than one occasion. Nance’s mother passed away in January of 2012.  In honor of her mother’s request, this July, Nance is presenting “Phyllis’ Show.“

“She was my biggest fan. She encouraged my photography and insisted that I had a "unique perspective" on the world.  Unfortunately, I never had a photo exhibit during her lifetime.”

This is Phyllis’ show.
