Outsider Art: Sharon Mohler
Going to another artists house is always a treat & Sharon Mohler's is one of my favourites because I get to see her newest or revisit her wonderful narrative sculptures. Anybody recognize who this is?
Yes, it's Alan Macbeth with his loyal dog Poe (or as some call ""hey, quit that") and his beautiful art building he has spent several decades building. Sharon's attention to detail really draws the viewer in and then there is the wonder of finding little surprises hidden in the details.
Modern Woman
Unfortunately there is little opportunity to see her work displayed locally :( but you can see images of her work on her website.
If you're interested in showing Sharon's work or wish to purchase/commission work her contact info is here.

Watson’s recent work reflects outwardly the internal
transformation that occurred during his physical recovery from a massive brain

reconnect broken synapses, Watson deconstructed and then reassembled materials
salvaged from earlier silkscreen projects to create a new body of art with a
cohesive design. Enjoy wine tasting accompanied by the music of Emma ‘n Everybody.ve become. If his work increases awareness, it is a reflection
of the learning he has been able to gain by listening to individuals and the
different perspectives they have to share.
The Emporium will also be hosting a wine tasting, which will be energized by the sounds of George Bieri & The Root Cellar Boys. Stop in for a great night of visual, musical and culinary art.

Yellow Springs an ART TOWN?
How the Arts Impacts Communities- Culture Conference 2002
It is recognized that The arts provide a catalyst for the creation of social capital and the attainment of important community goals (Goss 2000; Matarasso 1997; Williams
1995). Page 2.
Some people ask since when? I believe it is by default due to a long history of being considered very artsy, attracting a large population of creative residents (some who are well known or famous in their own fields) and listed as an Art Town (listed in Wikipedia & 100 Best Small Art Towns in America).
We are also known as a college town, a hippie town, health town, nature town, and so much more.
Is Art the only thing that defines Yellow Springs? Absolutely NOT, we are a multifaceted community, but the Arts play a significant and vital role in making this town visible (international/national attention for public art projects), vibrant and attractive to residents, potential residents, business'(The arts attract residents and businesses:page 8), and visitors.

For a town this size (less than 3,800), this is an impressive list, and I'm sure more could be added.

"A stroll up and down Xenia Avenue, Yellow Spring’s main street, showcases their artistic culture."
From Budget Travel America's 10 Coolest Small Towns
Public art has taken on a new meaning in the town, as well. One day, knitting appeared wrapped around a tree downtown, and soon passersby were bringing yarn to add to it. Now, the signposts up and down Xenia Avenue are covered with knitted "graffiti." — Peter Mandel
Art & Soul a YS Art Fair
A new, juried fine arts and crafts show for artists who "put their souls into making art." The show will be Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 10 am-5 pm at the Mills Lawn School Gymnasium, 200 S. Walnut St. in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
FAFYes
In 2008 for 6 months, thanks to the YS Community Foundation support, the jafagirls (and pals) were able to leave between 20-25 pieces of work out each month on third fridays Fling in the Springs.
We're not doing it on such a grand scale now, BUT the tradition carries on, and on any given Friday pieces of art are left around town with a tag that states it is free art to take home or share. So if you are visiting Yellow Springs on a Friday, keep your eyes peeled for a little piece of art with a tag.
