Artist Reclamation Project

Three local artists have contributed to the Landfill Art reclamation project, myself (Corrine Bayraktaroglu), Nancy Mellon and Jon Hudson.

"Landfillart is an international effort encompassing
one-thousand-forty-one (1,041) artists to claim a piece of rusted metal garbage
and create fine art."

Made me chuckle when I saw it. 
Which reminds me,
 time to have lunch there again soon and feast my googly eyes on their YUMMY menu.

YS Dance Concert -- 2nd chance tonite, 8 p.m.






Watch excerpts from last night's YS Community Dance Concert. Second performance tonite, 8 p.m., Antioch College South Gym.     "Flam Tap, Body Slap" debuts at YS Dance Concert





    Dancers rehearse "Flam Tap, Body Slap, Be Your Own Drum," choreographed by Ali Thomas and Lara Bauer and part of the upcoming YS Community Dance Concert. Concert dates are Friday and Saturday, March 25 & 26 at Antioch College South Gym, 8-10 p.m. Cost: $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and students.

    "The Art of Healing" kicks off Wellness Weekend





    YS Arts Council presents "The Art of Healing," a one-month gallery show with an opening reception at the YSAC Gallery, 309 Xenia Avenue, on Friday, March 18, 5:30-9 p.m. as part of the monthly Third Friday Fling.

    The exhibit features more than 30 regional artists and performers honoring the healing power of creative expression. Guest speaker and laughter therapist Joanne Augenstein will start the evening with "The Healing Benefits of Laughter" at 5:30 p.m. followed by music by Yellow Springs Strings, directed by Shirley Mullins. A fundraiser will accompany the show with raffled artwork by esteemed artists such as Corrine Bayraktaroglu, Tom Watson III, and Libby Rudolf, and services by wellness practitioners. The reception is free and open to the public and kicks off the YSAC Experience Wellness Weekend.

    Budding local artists


    Have you had a chance to stop in Village Artisans to see our latest show?


      It is a truly special one.  All the work on display this month has been provided by the next generation of Yellow Springs artists.





    Through the end of March, Village Artisans  will be featuring work done by the students at The Antioch School





    Here is one example of our young local talent










    And, here is the creator, Olivia Brintlinger-Conn.













    Please join us this Friday, March 18th  for a very special opening reception. 





    The reception runs from 5pm - 9pm as part of the Third Friday


     The student's artwork will be on display until the end of March.

    Red Cedars at YSAC Gallery





    Cincinnati folk duo Red Cedars (Pat Kennedy and Dinah Devoto) performed Monday night, March 7, during an evening of poetry and music hosted by villagers Anthony Fife and Lauren Shows. Poets Katerina Stoykova Klemer and Barbara Sabol also read selections from their poetry collection.

    Poetry and Music at YSAC Gallery, Monday






    An evening of poetry and music will be held at the YSAC Gallery, 309 Xenia Avenue, on Monday, March 7. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with light refreshments and music from Cincinnati folk duo Red Cedars with Pat Kennedy and Dinah Devoto. Poets Katerina Stoykova Klemer (left with poet Barbara Sabol) will present works from her published poetry collections "The Most" and "The Air Around the Butterfly"; Barbara Sabol will present from her book, "Original Ruse". Their books will be for sale as well.
