Anarchy in the Kitchen, an evening of gastronomy performances (via skype from Baltimore), exploring digestibility, consumption, good taste, domesticity, hunger, and accessibility, is curated by Laura McGough for the 2010 Umami International Festival of Food and Art. Participating artists include Graham Coreil-Allen, Steve Bradley, “bunny and chick” (Tim Nohe and Marian April Glebes), Bradley Chriss, Adam Good, Carolina Mayorga, Lisa Moren, Rebecca Nagle, Natalia Panfile, Casey Smith, and Shannon Young.

Exhibiting Opportunity

The Yellow Springs Arts Council

invites artists to apply to show in the YSAC Art Space Gallery.

No exhibition experience is required and there is no entry fee. Artists must become a member to show. Solo and shared shows are encouraged. Artists hang and manage the glalery duirng the Third Friday Fling receptions, for three hours each Sautrday during their one month exhibit.

Landscapes and Flowers

March 2 – March 30, 2010

The Glen Helen Association is hosting an art exhibition titled Landscapes and Flowers from March 2 to March 30, 2010.

This one-person show features paintings of landscapes and gardens in Ohio, California and Colorado. Show hours are 9:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday and 10 am to 4 pm on Saturdays and Sundays in the Glen Helen Building located at 405 Corry Street in Yellow Springs. Admission is free. The public is invited to meet the artist at the opening reception on Sunday, March 7 from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Yellow Springs resident Ann Gayek enjoys using painting as a way to express her spiritual bond with nature. Gayek comments, “Working outdoors is magical. I love gardens and flowers as much as I love wilderness. I hope that visitors can experience their own connection with these places when viewing these paintings.”

The exhibition includes a number of small pastel plein air studies as well as larger studio pieces. Gayek has been painting in pastel since 2005. She began painting in oil in the spring of 2009 with Dayton area artist Jean Koeller. “Oil is a new medium for me,” she says, “and I am delighted to include in this show a number of my first oil landscapes and flower paintings from this past summer and fall.”

The show is part of Glen Helen Association’s Atrium Gallery program – an ongoing series of monthly contemporary art exhibitions, which highlights the talents of emerging local and regional visual artists. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of any art goes to the Glen Helen Association, a non-profit organization whose mission is to support preservation and programs at Glen Helen and its 1,000-acre nature preserve.

Glen Helen to Hold Art Contest for Specialty License Plates

Call for entries of artwork from artists and designers

The Glen Helen Ecology Institute of Antioch College announced it is accepting submissions of artwork for its specialty license plate. By fall 2010, Ohio drivers will be able to buy the license plate featuring the winning design.

Artwork submissions will be accepted through April 30^th. Finalists will be featured on the Glen Helen website and the public will be invited to choose their favorite with voting taking place during the month of June. The winning design will be unveiled at the Glen Helen Association 50^th Anniversary Celebration over the July 4^th weekend.

Staff and volunteers at the Glen collected well over the 500 signatures required by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles to apply for the special organizational plates. The specialty plates will cost $25 with a portion of the fees dedicated to support Glen Helen. Creation of specialty plates requires authorization from the Ohio legislature, and State Senator Chris Widener (OH-10) will champion this effort on behalf of Glen Helen.

The plates should be available for purchase through the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles by fall 2010.
